Ahhh.. September.
Today is the first day of school in
Canada. I can feel the excitement:
new shoes, new books, new friends.
The air will smell.. crisp, clean.
I remember Septembers in Canada more than
any other month: it is the start of the year there: a new beginning,
But here, where it never rains during the
‘dry’, where we are already well into the calendar as well as our school year,
we are still trying to settle in.
Since I arrived in January, we have changed
our curriculum, changed a lot of our students, and seem to be working on
getting rid of our third principal.
Small town politics.
Or is it just politics in general, as that
has changed in the NT as well.
The Labour Day weekend in Canada is over
for another year, but the sentiments of the Day aren’t yet gone from my mind..
People here seem to be stepping over each
other, trying to get to the top of some heap or another.. like Myrtle the
Turtle.. was that his name?
“King of all I can see”..
But wasn’t there a little, common turtle
named Burt or something.. that burped.. and sent the whole mess tumbling down.
It always comes back to Dr. Suess doesn’t
it: and the things we were supposed to be learning in kindergarten.
I'm no super hero, but I try to get 'my' kids learning the important stuff.. like good manners and looking out for each other.
I'm no super hero.. but I am hoping that a few of 'my' kids may be!
