I woke up Tuesday morning to my phone ringing. It was early. It was Tara.. calling from Kuala Selengor. Tara is one of the mentors: Canadian. From Calgary.
She was numb.. her face, her neck, down her arms.
She was scared.
I was going to go get her myself, but we have a new team leader now. A real team leader, that answered his phone when I called and asked if he would go check on her.. take her to the hospital. I live 100 K down the road.. he is just two floors down from her apartment.
Tara has GPS and so managed to find a hospital alright. It is a public one, not the cleanest or the finest in the country, but just 20 minutes away in Tangun Mullum, the small town just north of her. They did an EKG.. blood tests.. all they could. Nothing. It wasn’t a heart attack.. or a stroke.. now if we just knew what it was.
Vas and I are heading into KL tomorrow. We are spending a couple of nights at a nice hotel with a pool before he sets out Saturday morning for Xiamen. Tara will leave here and go back to her place.. not sure what comes next though.
She is feeling better but.. what is this about? She is still tingling.. not as much, but it is there.. and moving around. Her cheek, above her eyes, the backs of her arms. Tingling.. She hasn’t been sleeping or eating well.. lots of stress in her life right now: the new job.. a move to Klang. But does can stress, lack of calcium and folic acid, really do something as strange as this to your body?
Anyone have any ideas?

I went and picked her up a little later and brought her home, to my place here in Sabak Bernam. She spent the night and yesterday we went for a walk.. then Vas made breakfast.. we drove to Teluk Itan for coffee, shopping and to check out a hotel with a pool!!!
We had yogurt smoothies. It was a nice day. Quiet.
When we got back to SB we saw Vas whiz by on his bike.. he suggested we visit the Ramadan Market after getting the cars washed for ten ringett. Every day during Ramadan the market sets up at about four o’clock. In our little town there were about fifteen big white tents serving out a variety of items.. kabobs.. fruit drinks.. potatoes on a stick.. curry puffs.. spring rolls.. chicken pancakes.. doughnuts.. banana doughnut holes. Lots of good stuff. It is always fun.. chatting with locals who I am beginning to recognize and deciding on what to buy. We got way too much and called the neighbour, Judy Lee, over to help eat it all.
It was a nice day.. a holiday here in Malaysia: the middle of Ramadan: half way there. It reminds me of the big Feast I attended in Hartley Bay in Canada celebrating the middle of winter: half way there. We all have our cultural burdens to bare eh.
There were lots of fireworks and people out having a great time on Tuesday night.. but Wednesday morning was quiet. The market was busy though.. kids dressed up in traditional gear all down at the square.. very colourful.
