Life is what happens while we make other plans.
First it was work in the UAE… but we know what happened there. Well sort of.
Maybe they didn’t hire me because they just didn’t like what they saw and heard at the interview. It could have been that I have applied for work there before and a virus ended up sending them ‘haraam’ emails.. Or maybe it was something to do with the fact that I was Canadian. There are issues between our countries these days.. to do with their Airlines. Who’s to know. But I didn’t get that job.
So we move on to Malaysia. Which sounds wonderful. But of course the immediacy changes everything else.
I no longer am planning to visit the Johnston household in Grande Prairie. Which is ok, because although it wasn't planned, Travis has made it home. I won’t get to see him or little Abigale, who is rapidly evolving into a very happy and active little girl, but at least he will be there with his wife and daughter.
I can’t see Nola and Jeri in Calgary: or Rea for a leisurely week in Edmonton. Six weeks of treatment was certainly not in Rea's plans. I won’t be sitting in Mary’s hot tub and I am sure she is broken hearted. Don't laugh.
But what really steams me is that a weekend in the Kootenays: skiing and a visit with Monte and Adam is also down the tube: Because of my back??!! Monte had organized skiis, lift passes, clothing.. the works! He had made plans! I am NOT happy about being stuck here on the couch! I am not thrilled to have spent $600 of an a plane ticket I can't use.
Life is always throwing things at us. Good things. Bad things. They say things happen for a reason. But I don’t think they have things happening to them quite so often as us mere non-‘they’s…
But maybe it’s all good. I mean, I am going to Malaysia. I have been checking it out on Google and Wikopedia.. it does look very green. I think I am ready for green. Don’t they also say “It’s easy being Green”?
Or is that “It’s not easy being Green.”?
No, couldn’t be… that was Kermit the frog… not them.
All I know is… life really is what happens while we are making other plans.
