I had lunch with Kim on the weekend.
I hadn’t seen her in a while so we had lots to chat about.
First of all, Bali.
I had just come through Bali on my way to Cairns and had lots to say about that. Not Bali itself.. not the food, or how good
it felt to be back in shorts and bathers.
We talked more about how the trip was cut short as we were anxious to
get home.

| Boab balls on a tree that isn't a boab tree? Cairns, Australia |
Bali was a stopover on our return trip from Canada. I was still tied to Canada and emails were
flying as I worked on organizing things I had left undone. Lots of drama. We had been out of Australia for more than
six months.. I was anxious to see if 1.
They let me back in the country as a permanent resident (they did) 2. If my
medical is still in place (it is). Vas was just anxious to be on Australian
soil again. Bali gave us a chance to
catch our breath before we moved on. Cut
those last ties to Canada. Besides..
they had better internet there than where we are staying right now.. and here
we have the sunshine and the pool: it worked out well.
Talking about the trip back started me talking about the
trip itself, and so about Canada. After
six months away I had a bit to say.. about family, drama, the drama that is
family. We spoke of my mother’s illness,
issues with my sisters and dramas surrounding my now middle-aged children. We talked about the detachment of my ex
husband and how awesome my grandkids are.
That started me talking about the trips I took into the
interior of B.C. to see family and friends.
The importance of friends.. how much I value my friends and what an
important role my Canadian friendst played on this visit.
But I don’t think I mentioned how much I value her
friendship. And I don’t think I let her
talk a lot: about her job and all the travel she has do to stay on top of
that.. how absolute
About her partner.. and his work.
About her upcoming trip to Canada and… well I am not sure of anything
else because I barely let her get a word in.
| My walk to lunch.. along the Esplanade No pics of sushi or Kim.. sorry. |
I was just happy to see her again.
Kim did manage to tell me she had been regularly checking my
blogs while I was away. She figured
‘something was up’ when there weren’t a lot.
I think I owe it to all my friends to keep in touch a bit better this
way.. as then they won’t have to listen so much when they come and visit me!
Kim and I were at Sushi Train in Cairns for lunch. Her daughter joined us, as that was Kim had
come .. to visit her family! My bill
came to a whole lot less than hers… I didn’t have a lot of time to eat, it is a
wonder I had time to breathe! Kim and
Megean, on the other hand, had plenty.
I will probably be back to the mall again today for a bit
more Sushi.. I love Sushi Train. But I
will miss Kim as she went home to Darwin and then back to work.. and is
probably in Canberra now.
I will miss Debbie and Mary. But that is ok. I know I’ll be back and I won’t miss the cold
or the drama.
. my kids.. my mom.. I will miss
Sam and Buddy of course… the whole package that is Canada.
As for the future, I am going to try and blog a bit more so
that when I arrive at either end, I can chat less and eat more.

Or maybe not.
