Logan was a good runner!

A children's story based on life in the "Top End"

Logan lived in a container on the beach with his dad.

Every morning Logan and his father would run the beach, looking for fishing lures, shells or weights they could use, or pass on to friends and family.

Logan was a good runner!

And he wasn’t afraid of hard work.

Logan wasn’t afraid of many things.

Logan wasn’t afraid of the dark
“When we close the door on the container it gets really, really dark.  I like it there.  It is nice and cool”

Logan wasn’t afraid of crocodiles.
“If they chase me, I just knock them on the head with a stick!  They run away fast enough!”

Logan wasn’t afraid of snakes.
“They won’t bother you if you don’t bother them”

But, Logan was afraid of something.

Logan was afraid of school.
“I don’t want to go to school” he told his father that first day at the end of January.  “What are you going to do all day if I’m not here?”

“I’ll be ok”, his dad said.  “You need to go to school”.

On the first day the teacher wanted Logan to sit in front of all the kids and tell everyone his ‘News’.  Logan didn’t have any news and he certainly didn’t want to talk in front of so many kids.

So he ran home.

On the second day of school Logan had news.  He showed the class the lure he had found on the beach that morning.  They liked it.

When it was math time, Logan didn’t know how to add and subtract numbers.

So he ran home.

On the third day Logan was ok with the News, and the teacher let him play with the blocks and showed him how to add and write the numbers down.  But, when it was Reading time, Logan didn’t know how to read.

So he ran home.

The next day School was ok.  When it came to Reading time, the teacher read to him!  It was a great story about the wetlands.

Logan liked the wetlands.

And he liked sharing stuff with the other kids during News.  He liked Maths and Reading.. he liked History and Geography, Health and he especially liked all his new friends.

Logan wasn’t afraid of school anymore!

And.. sometimes

Logan even ran to school!
