A week of travel..

It was a week of travel.

We headed out of Kings Canyon last Wednesday morning: Vas pulling out of the Ranger Station at the crack of dawn in our little blue Toyota, and me in the work truck.  The sun was just coming up over the red cliffs as I watched Vasi, in my rear view mirror, wind his way down the single lane, eucalyptus tree lined bitumen road.

I stopped in Imanpa for a few hours, providing release for the regular teacher for the last time.  The kids were wired, the flies were plentiful, and the promethian board would not work.  I read a few picture books, including "This is NOT my Hat" and a Pete the Cat version of Wheels on the Bus.. the kids love to sing and draw pictures so were all good.

Good thing I had packed books for my grand daughter..s.

Then it was Alice.. I checked out my 'unit' and ordered some new curtains for the front.  Vas put five suitcases bound for Townsville, on the bus while I chatted with the boss at Lassiter Group School, and parked the truck at the Education Department 'Shed'.

We were on the road early Friday, and turned right off the Stuart Highway just north of Tennent Creek, on to the Barkly Highway and spent the night at the Barkly Roadhouse: which was actually not bad.

Our drive through the Table Lands had us spend the next night at Julia Creek.. and by Sunday we were finished the 2, 500 kilometer trek to the ocean, most of flat, dry and dusty,  to the beautiful city of Townsville.

Tuesday was a long day.

We were both up at 4, on a plane to Brisbane by 5.. then on to Sydney.  Vas headed to Melbourne to visit his daughter for a while while I took a short bus ride from the Domestic terminal over to the International.  From there I caught the 'in-transit' bus, so at least didn't have to take the long way around.  Just two hours later I was on the 14 hour plane ride to Los Angelas.. customs, imigration.. a quick jog to another terminal: transfering from a Quantas to a parnter airline - Alaska.  No break yet.. the plane was bording when I arrived and just over 2 hours later I was in Vancouer, where I caught a limousine and the ferry and mom picked me up.

I needed a lot more wheels than just the ones on the bus!

And too.. it was still Tuesday!  We went grocery shopping, out for Chinese and before I knew it we were watching the sun go down on the most beautiful yard you can imagine.

But I won't be home until Vasi finally catches up.
