The weather has been cooler and so I haven't been swimming as much: but all is well in Mataranka.
Week four of the term started yesterday, yet it seems I haven't settled in yet. Nor have 'my' kids'. It has been much too busy and the time has flown by. However, I did get my probation out of the way.
A panel of two fellows asked what I thought. Looking at a scale of 1-5 in a variety of areas I told them just to give me all five's: I figured it would just save a lot of time.. and besides.. I wanted them to make up for banging my head against the wall on Mornington Island.. that situation in Wankajanka, the hard work I did in Balgo and the ass of a boss I had in Malaysia. I just wanted someone to say 'thank you.. you did a good job' for once. Don't I deserve all five's?
Well.. it seems not. The list did include things like understanding and applying not only the National Curriculum but also the RSCAM, the C to C and some other acronomyn I hadn't heard of. Not all fives, but almost!
I am happy. I think I also got a present. Two student teachers showed up yesterday, and I think the best one landed in my classroom. Hopefully she is as good as she seems. The kids flocked around her and she loved it. First off I asked her to read my kids a story and I took off to get some other kids set up in the library with Cogmed.. an expensive remedial program that was set up for a couple of our kids.. something about improving their 'active memory', and she did. The kids love her.. and so
I am happy.
I took her out to dinner last night at the Homestead to celebrate her being here as well as the fives, and the fact that I am no longer on probation. It isn't a big thing, but it is one more thing. Then we walked out to the springs and further down to the river.
'Buddy' was there.. and I think he was smiling!
