Back in the air

I thought I was getting pretty good at travelling, but no.. I'm not.

I packed a carry-on, but it was too heavy.  I had to check it.

Which would be ok, except it contained the stuff I like to travel with.. like the power cord for this computer and my tooth brush. Cathay Pacific doesn't give you the little 'care package' that some of the other airlines do, but it has power outlets on the back of the seats! And, the seats are quite wide and there is enough leg room to cross your legs, even in the 'cheap seats'!

I was tired today.. and it wasn't because I didn't sleep well last night.  I spent New Years Eve 2011/12 at John and Lynn's place.  They know how to have fun those two.  Good friends, good food, and lots of games.  When they got into 'Wi' curling though, I realised I was surrounded by some pretty serious curlers and snuck off to bed for a bit of a nap.  Sleep didn't come easy or last long: John's unique, braying rather loud laugh didn't let me leave for too long.

So I 'made it' to midnight!  Hugs.. noise makers a pathetic attempt at singing and the gang headed out and I slept the rest of the night in John and Lynn's comfortable 'guest room'.

John drove me to the airport on Sunday morning.. we left early this time and the roads were quieter than I remember ever seeing the streets of Vancouver!  I got to check in really early!

But I forgot to ask for a window or isle seat and ended up in the middle.. I always wondered what the people who sat there had done to mess their Karma around like that.. but there I was.. 68 F.. for 12 hours!  I tried to change it right before we boarded, but they said.. no.

It was a huge plane too... who knew so many people wanted to go to Hong Kong on New Years Day!?  I sat in row 68.. downstairs!  With ten seats across and all of them full, except one, it took forever to load everyone (although not as long as it did a small plane out of Salalah where no one took the assigned seating too seriously except the flight staff).  By the time to made it to the very back of this monster, I felt like I had been walking forever!

But.. one empty seat.. and it just so happened it was right next to me!

2012 is going to be a good year I think..
