So I am not writing a lot because I am not doing a lot... well.. maybe I am. But nothing you would be interested in.
I am developing workshops.
I forgot how much I love this stuff. This actual teaching stuff.
I learned how to throw away objectives and creating a framework to get you where you need to go, and replaced it with 'the book'. I just about had a nervous breakdown in Musanna (Oman) when they said the curriculum was 'the book'. Bea and I even cleaned out the book room.. we threw books away.. we stacked shelves neatly with books. We took them off the floor and reorganized them.. on shelves.. together. But it didn't help. There was no curiculum.. there were no objectives.. we just taught 'the book'.
And bugger if it wasn't easy.
It was all there.. "turn to page..' 'Turn on tape".. just do it. And we did.. and we started to like it. And I spent four years there, teaching 'the book' and leaving work early and going to the pool.. swimming in the ocean.. playing with the kids. No prep when it is all done for you. 16 hours of teaching means 16 hours of work.
But the honeymoon is over folks. Now 16 hours of teaching translates to a very long week. We are trying to get teacher's out of 'the book' and back to teaching.
And we will do it too.
I mean, you saw the beach (facebook). "The Beach" is up north. Malaysia is like any other country.. it has it's good points and it's just reglar points. I live here in a 'regular' place, even though Eden is close by. And I once again have a 'regular' job.
I develop workshops and teach people how to teach.. that 'the book' doesn't cut it. Not for our kids. Not for their kids.
No.. I haven't been doing a lot.. but I have been doing an awful amount of work! I got a new desk.. it was delivered yesterday.. maybe I shouldn't have done that?
And I did paint a few of my walls yellow. And deposit the cockroach down the squat toilet in the kitchen.. and yell at the little lizards that crap on my walls and don't seem to be eating all the mosquitoes as I am still getting a few bites at night. And go for a walk along the water front. And make a few new friends. And visit with the lady at the laudry mat.
Vas comes in a few weeks. He will get me back off track.
I will write more then eh?!
